It Is No Longer I Who Live But Christ Lives In Me | Galatians 2:18-21
In Galatians 2:18–21, Paul emphasizes that we are justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law. Returning to a works-based system after trusting in Christ undermines the sufficiency of His finished work on the cross. The Law reveals our sin and our need for a Savior, but it cannot give us righteousness. In Christ, we have died to the Law so that we might live to God.
To be “crucified with Christ” means that our old life of self-reliance, sin, and striving for righteousness through works has died, and Christ now lives in us. The Christian life is therefore lived by faith in the Son of God, producing a transformed life that pursues holiness and good works—not to earn salvation, but as the fruit of God’s grace and the Holy Spirit’s work. Christ’s sacrifice is completely sufficient; adding anything to faith in Christ for our justification is to set aside the grace of God.
