Church Leadership is Commanded to Protect the Flock First

“Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock…” (Acts 20:28)

“Shepherd the flock of God among you…” (1 Peter 5:2)

The leadership’s primary responsibility is covenant members, not outsiders.

If the following are practiced, these are serious errors by church leaders:

- Non-members are protected and prioritized

- Members who are stumbled are ignored

- Those grieved by sin are marginalized

- And the sheep are driven away

Jesus gives the exact opposite model:

“Which of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost?” (Luke 15:4)

The shepherd goes after the sheep, not sacrifices them over goats. And if both are sheep, again the priority is the flock.

To “shepherd” outsiders over covenant members is spiritual malpractice.

About Thinking Biblically

Thinking Biblically

Thinking Biblically is a ministry which aims to point people to Christ and scripture in answering and addressing the realities of this fallen world. Every 4th Sunday of the Month, CCRC holds a question and answer for its flock right after service to help people think biblically on issues and matters relevant to people. There are also blogs and articles made under this same spirit of pointing people to the Word on anything and everything. May these articles and discussions exalt the name of Christ and His Words in your life!
