How We Respond To Being Wrong

There are moments when the Lord, in His mercy, brings us face to face with the truth that we were in the wrong.

These moments are not meant to crush us, but to reveal us.

How we respond in such moments often discloses far more about our hearts than the original failure itself.

A softened heart will bow under truth.

It will confess without qualification, repent without defensiveness, and seek reconciliation without conditions.

Such a response does not arise from natural temperament, but from a heart being shaped by grace.

Scripture reminds us that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Where humility is present, grace flows freely.

By contrast, a hardened heart resists exposure. It minimizes sin, reframes guilt, shifts blame, or cloaks disobedience in spiritual language.

This resistance is not merely relational; it is theological.

To reject correction is to reject the God who lovingly disciplines His children for their good.

The Christian life is not marked by sinlessness, but by repentance.

What distinguishes a believer is not the absence of error, but a growing readiness to be corrected by God’s Word and God’s people.

When truth confronts us, the question is never simply, “Was I wrong?” but rather, “Will I submit to what God has shown me?”

In this way, moments of correction become moments of grace.

They expose whether we love our own reputation or the righteousness of Christ, whether we desire self-preservation or sanctification.

And it is often in these quiet, costly moments of owning our wrong that the Spirit is doing His deepest work in us, conforming us more fully to the image of our humble Savior.

About Thinking Biblically

Thinking Biblically

Thinking Biblically is a ministry which aims to point people to Christ and scripture in answering and addressing the realities of this fallen world. Every 4th Sunday of the Month, CCRC holds a question and answer for its flock right after service to help people think biblically on issues and matters relevant to people. There are also blogs and articles made under this same spirit of pointing people to the Word on anything and everything. May these articles and discussions exalt the name of Christ and His Words in your life!
