On Counseling
Unfortunately, many today speak of “biblical counseling” and profess confidence in the Word of God, yet when the moment of counsel comes, they subtly turn to the frameworks and assumptions of modern psychology.
But calling something “Christian” does not make it biblical.
True biblical counseling is not defined by the counselor’s profession of faith, but by the authority that governs the counsel.
If Scripture is not sufficient, central, and determinative in both diagnosis and solution, then what is offered, no matter how well-intentioned, ceases to be truly biblical.
God’s Word is not a supplement to human wisdom; it is the very standard by which all wisdom is judged (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
When we replace or even quietly elevate psychological theories alongside Scripture, we do not strengthen our counsel, we undermine the authority of God Himself.
The issue is not whether psychology contains observations about human behavior. The issue is authority. Will we submit to God’s Word as sufficient for the care of souls, or will we reinterpret people through the lens of man?
Biblical counseling calls people not merely to coping, but to repentance, faith, and obedience to Christ. It does not aim at self-fulfillment, but at holiness. It does not rest on human insight, but on divine revelation.
If Scripture is truly God-breathed, then it must be enough, not only to teach, but to correct, restore, and transform the human heart.
About Thinking Biblically
Thinking Biblically
Thinking Biblically is a ministry which aims to point people to Christ and scripture in answering and addressing the realities of this fallen world. Every 4th Sunday of the Month, CCRC holds a question and answer for its flock right after service to help people think biblically on issues and matters relevant to people. There are also blogs and articles made under this same spirit of pointing people to the Word on anything and everything. May these articles and discussions exalt the name of Christ and His Words in your life!
