The Heart, Method & Message | What Is The Right Way To Share The Gospel?

As we think biblically today, we turn our attention to a foundational question for the church. What is the right way to share the gospel? This is not simply a matter of style or effectiveness, but a deeply theological question shaped by our understanding of how God saves.

From a Reformed perspective, we affirm that salvation belongs to the Lord. The gospel does not gain its power from human creativity, persuasion, or experience, but from God Himself, who saves through the proclamation of His Word by the work of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, we must carefully examine not only how we share the gospel, but whether the message we proclaim is the true gospel revealed in Scripture.

The questions being raised among us help frame this discussion:

• Is there a right and a wrong way to share the gospel
• What defines the gospel message and what must never be altered or omitted
• How do we understand the role of method when regeneration is the work of the Holy Spirit alone
• Is personal testimony necessary in evangelism or can it unintentionally shift the focus away from Christ and His finished work
• How do we speak with genuine compassion and gentleness while holding firmly to biblical truth in difficult conversations

These questions remind us that while the outward call of the gospel is entrusted to the church, the inward call belongs to God alone. We proclaim Christ crucified, trusting that God sovereignly brings life to whom He wills. Our responsibility is faithfulness, not results. Our confidence rests not in ourselves, but in the sufficiency of the gospel and the saving power of God.

As we consider the heart, the method, and the message, may our thinking be shaped by Scripture, our hearts humbled by God’s sovereignty, and our proclamation centered on Christ alone.

About Thinking Biblically

Thinking Biblically

Thinking Biblically is a ministry which aims to point people to Christ and scripture in answering and addressing the realities of this fallen world. Every 4th Sunday of the Month, CCRC holds a question and answer for its flock right after service to help people think biblically on issues and matters relevant to people. There are also blogs and articles made under this same spirit of pointing people to the Word on anything and everything. May these articles and discussions exalt the name of Christ and His Words in your life!
